Police inform Speaker about Lamichhane’s arrest

The police have informed Speaker Devraj Ghimire about the arrest of Rabi Lamichhane, a member of the House of Representatives and Chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on charges of fraud and organised crime.
Superintendent of Police Shyam Babu Oli, chief of the District Police Office Kaski, informed the Speaker through an official letter on Friday.
“As per the arrest warrant issued by the Kaski District Court on October 18, Rabi Lamichhane, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Chitwan-2 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, has been taken into custody for an investigation into criminal offences,” reads the letter.
The police formally requested the Speaker to acknowledge the information, adding, “In accordance with Article 103 (6) of the constitution, this letter serves to inform the Speaker about the arrest of MP Rabi Lamichhane.”
Police on Friday evening arrested former deputy prime minister and Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Lamichhane in connection with an investigation into cooperative fraud and organised crime charges.
A police team deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau arrested him from his party’s head office in Banasthali, Kathmandu. He is being taken to Pokhara to face trial as the case was filed in Kaski district police.
