The Supreme Court has ordered senior advocate Gopal Krishna Ghimire, president of the Nepal Bar Association, to submit a written response within seven days regarding a contempt of court case against him.
The top court progressed with the contempt proceedings based on the case filed by the Supreme Court’s Deputy Registrar, Govind Prasad Ghimire, alleging contempt against the Bar President.
During the hearing on Thursday, a bench comprising Justices Kumar Regmi and Kumar Chudal directed Ghimire to file a written response within the stipulated time frame.
“If there are any grounds for not issuing the order as requested by the petitioner, provide evidence along with a response in writing either personally or through a legal representative within seven days from the date of receiving this notice, in addition to submitting a copy of the petition,” the apex court said.
On September 27, the Judicial Council nominated two high court chief judges as Supreme Court justices despite lawyers’ sit-in on the council premises, protesting against the nominations.
Ghimire, the NBA president, had criticised the nominations, accusing the council of selecting the two judges in exchange for money.
Deputy Registrar Ghimire filed the petition at the court on September 30 demanding legal action against the NBA president.
