Khasokhas, a Nepali-language media outlet in the United States, has received a $100,000 Press Forward Grant aimed at strengthening local Nepali journalism.
The award, part of a national initiative to revitalise local news, will help close coverage gaps in communities traditionally underserved by mainstream media, the news website said in a statement.
Kishor Panthi, editor-in-chief and publisher of Khasokhas, expressed his gratitude for the grant, calling it a recognition of the outlet’s 13-year effort to serve the Nepali community.
“The funding will enhance the media outlet’s ability to cover vital stories within the Nepali diaspora, improve its digital presence, and expand reporting,” reads the statement.
Founded in 2012, Khasokhas has focused on issues affecting Nepali immigrants, including immigration, housing, and healthcare. With the new grant, the organisation plans to increase its reporting capacity and provide high-quality, independent journalism to better inform its readers.
