Maoist Centre lifts House obstruction
The party to allow Prime Minister Oli to address the lower House.Post Report
The CPN (Maoist Centre) has lifted the obstruction of the House of Representatives on Monday.
Earlier, during a Business Advisory Committee meeting called by Speaker Devraj Ghimire, the Maoist Centre confirmed its decision to lift the ongoing obstruction.
According to the Speaker’s Secretariat, Maoist Chief Whip Hit Raj Pandey said the party would allow Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to address the House regarding his upcoming visit to New York for the 79th United Nations General Assembly.
Pandey, however, reaffirmed the party’s objection with UML lawmaker Yogesh Bhattarai’s reference to the Maoist insurgency as ‘violence.’
“We still oppose the use of the term ‘violence,’ but we will not obstruct the prime minister’s address on his foreign trip. We will voice our concerns and then lift the obstruction,” the Speaker’s Secretariat quoted Pandey as saying.
The Federal Parliament’s ongoing session will conclude after the prime minister addresses the issue and presents a report by a special parliamentary probe committee on cooperatives.
The government on Sunday recommended to President Ramchandra Paudel that the current session of the House be prorogued.
