National Security Advisor Shanker Das Bairagi has resigned from the post citing personal reasons.
“I resigned from the post last week and I am now going to spend my time studying,” he told the Post.
Government had appointed the then chief secretary Bairagi as National Security Advisor in mid-June last year.
Career diplomat Bairagi, who was promoted to the post of chief secretary in October 2020, served as foreign secretary from October 11, 2015 to October 1, 2020.
Previously Bairagi served as acting foreign secretary and officiating foreign secretary of Nepal from February 2014 to 10 October 2015. He was Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Office, World Trade Organisation and other international Organisations in Geneva as well as international organisations based in Vienna and Rome from February 2012 to November 2013.
