Nepal and China agree to further promote bilateral cooperation

Nepal and China have expressed commitment to further promote bilateral cooperation.
According to the foreign ministry, during the 16th round of the Nepal-China diplomatic consultation mechanism meeting, the two sides expressed their commitment to further promoting cooperation in mutually agreed-upon areas and to realising economic opportunities for mutual benefits.
The foreign ministry said that during the meeting held in Kathmandu, the two sides reviewed the whole gamut of bilateral relations between Nepal and China and assessed the progress made in implementing agreements, Memorandums of Understanding signed, and decisions made in the past.
Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal and Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Sun Weidong led the respective delegations.
Both the heads of delegation reiterated that strong foundations of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual trust, goodwill, and understanding remain the guiding features of Nepal-China bilateral relations, reads the statement by the foreign ministry.
Both sides shared views on maintaining the regular exchange of high-level visits. They discussed the ways and means to further enhance cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, infrastructure development, connectivity, and agriculture, among others, including the promotion of Nepal’s tourism prospects in China in the context of the celebration of the year 2025 as ‘Visit Nepal Year in China.’
Both sides decided to hold special programmes and activities in 2025 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and China.
Nepal and China stressed the need to further activate the existing bilateral mechanisms and establish new ones, including the Joint Commission at the foreign ministers-level.
Chinese Vice Minister Sun and his delegation arrived in Kathmandu on Monday and will depart for Beijing on Wednesday.
