House endorses budget for fiscal year 2024-25
The House of Representatives rejects proposals to reduce expenditures to various ministries.Post Report
The House of Representatives on Tuesday endorsed the annual budget for fiscal 2024-25 by a majority.
Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, who chaired the meeting, announced that the motion to endorse the Appropriation Bill tabled by Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun was endorsed by a majority.
Earlier, the lower House rejected by a majority the proposals to reduce expenditures on the headings related to various ministries under the Appropriation Bill.
A total of 31 lawmakers presented these proposals during deliberations on the bill’s appropriation headings. Before this, Speaker Devraj Ghimire had proposed slashing the expenditure for a decision.
Earlier, the Prime Minister and the Ministers of the related ministries had responded to the questions raised by lawmakers during the deliberations on the topics related to apportion for the various ministries in the appropriation bill.
Barsha Man Pun presented a Rs1.86 trillion budget estimate for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the joint sitting of the Federal Parliament on May 28.
The budget for the next fiscal year, beginning mid-July, is 6.2 percent larger than the unrevised budget of the current fiscal year. The government allocated Rs1.75 trillion for the fiscal year 2023-24.
