Post Report
The meeting of the National Assembly has been adjourned until Monday after the main opposition, Nepali Congress, warned of obstruction.
The Congress has been obstructing both houses of the federal parliament—the House of Representatives and the National Assembly–demanding a parliamentary probe into Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in the cooperatives scam.
Padma Prasad Pandey, general secretary of the federal parliament secretariat, said in a notice that the meeting has been postponed until 1:15pm tomorrow.
Earlier, the meeting scheduled for 1:15pm was put off by two hours.
After weeks-long uncertainty following parliamentary obstruction and negotiations to open it, the ruling and opposition parties on Saturday agreed to form a parliamentary panel to probe the cooperative scam.
The upper house meeting was postponed as a four-member task force is yet to finalise the parliamentary committee’s term of reference.
