Professors Biju Kumar Thapaliya and Dhruba Kumar Gautam have been appointed vice-chancellors of Purbanchal University and Mid-Western University, respectively.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, in the capacity of the chancellor of both universities, appointed Thapaliya and Gautam to their respective positions on Tuesday.
Thapaliya, formerly the Dean of the Faculty of Management at Purbanchal University, and Gautam, the director of the Planning Directorate at Tribhuvan University, were appointed to their new roles.
A recommendation committee for Mid-West University had forwarded the names of Nanda Bahadur Singh, Dev Bahadur Khadka, and Gautam. The three-member committee led by Chair of the University Grants Commission Devraj Adhikari was formed to recommend candidates for the position of vice-chancellor.
For Purbanchal University, a recommendation committee chaired by Minister for Education Sumana Shrestha was formed. The committee had proposed the names of Thapaliya, Maheshraj Dahal and Devi Prasad Bhattarai.
On February 22, Prime Minister Kamal Dahal, in the capacity of the chancellor of Tribhuvan University, appointed Professor Keshar Jung Baral as its vice-chancellor.
