The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Tuesday filed a corruption case against four people including then head of Biratnagar Customs Office Tara Prasad Sapkota.
The anti-graft body registered the case at the Special Court, charging them for graft by under-invoicing goods imported from China, which could have resulted in revenue loss to the government.
Customs officer Nahakul Sharma, proprietor of Dev International Sher Bahadur Basnet and customs agent Sharan Kumar Kharel have also been charge-sheeted, said Narahari Ghimire, spokesperson for CIAA.
According to the CIAA, they attempted to lower the revenue owed by the company by under-invoicing and altering the quality of goods. However, these attempts were unsuccessful following monitoring by the Customs Department, said CIAA.
Ghimire said the CIAA filed the case demanding the recovery of the Rs8.4 million, which the government would have incurred as a loss.
