Lower House meeting adjourned following Nepali Congress’ obstruction
Congress lawmakers raised questions about the appointment of Rabi Lamichhane as minister.Post Report
A meeting of the House of Representatives has been adjourned until Sunday following an obstruction from the main opposition Nepali Congress.
While the meeting was underway, Congress lawmakers protested against the appointment of Rastriya Swatantra Party chair Rabi Lamichhane as the deputy prime minister and home minister despite being accused of misappropriating millions of rupees of the general public deposited at cooperatives.
The meeting was initially adjourned for 15 minutes after lawmakers of the main opposition stood from their seats to obstruct the proceedings demanding that Minister Lamichhane resign immediately and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal address the issue.
The lawmakers surrounded the rostrum immediately after House Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire convened the next sitting as he attempted to resume the House proceedings.
Home Minister Lamichhane was scheduled to table a bill to amend the Act on Political Parties in Friday’s meeting.
Congress lawmakers said they were ready to discuss the principles and priorities of the budget but only after the prime minister answered the questions raised about newly appointed minister Lamichhane.
