Five cameras installed in Beldandi areas of Shuklaphanta National Park (SNP) to monitor and count tigers have been stolen. The cameras were installed on December 8.
Besides the five stolen ones, another camera was broken by an elephant, according to Lakshmiraj Joshi, head of the National Trust for Nature Conservation’s SNP conservation programme.
The officials started collecting the cameras placed to track tigers on January 3.
The monitoring and counting of tigers is an annual programme of the park, and every year, cameras are stolen, said Joshi.
An investigation is going on to find the people behind the theft, and strict action will be taken against them, said Joshi.
