At a time when students are forced to go abroad for lack of employment opportunities in Nepal, Acting Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University Shivlal Bhusal on Tuesday said there is a problem in the creation of new jobs not only in the university but in the economy as a whole.
Speaking at the second session ‘How do we avail quality higher education in Nepal?’ during the Kantipur Education Summit-2080, Bhusal signalled that the dissatisfaction of the students regarding employment is justified but the university can’t solve it alone.
Also speaking, Kedar Prasad Rijal, dean of the faculty of science, health and technology at the Nepal Open University, said Nepal should give priority to research-based education and fully follow the educational calendar. He said that the state should realise that students are demanding research-based education and adopt the education system accordingly.
Ekku Maya Pun, dean and assistant professor of school of arts, at Kathmandu University, suggested the government and universities should focus on making students entrepreneurs with quality education.
Likewise, Sulabh Budhathoki, the founding president of Innovate Nepal Group, said the overall quality of education has not improved in Nepal as the examination system is focused on securing more marks.
Saying that quality education requires quality teaching materials, quality teachers and other resources, Budhathoki said we have paid attention to quality books and improving the capacity of teachers.
