Chairman of the International Education Providers Association of Nepal (IEPAN) Laxman KC on Tuesday said the flow of students in colleges affiliated with foreign universities is overwhelming and such colleges are delivering good results.
“We are teaching over 40 courses of three dozen universities of 17 countries in Nepal and many students are getting enrolled with us on their own will,” he said.
Speaking at the third session ‘Why degrees don’t translate into skills or jobs?’ during the Kantipur Education Summit, KC said their mission is being fulfilled as students graduating in IT, management and fashion designing among others are getting employment in their respective fields.
Likewise, Mahesh Bhattarai, member secretary of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), said the government has failed to give priority to technical education.
“The government has not given justice to technical education. I should not have said that as a member secretary of CTEVT. But I must say the government has given priority to professional education only in words,” he said.
He expressed his displeasure saying that the officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education are not interested in increasing the numbers of technical teachers at the council.
Also speaking, Nilam Shrestha Pradhan, chief of Tri-Chandra College, said that the government has not invested in the infrastructure of the campus and more investment is needed for quality education. Pradhan said the practical examination is an opportunity for every student to learn skills but it is neglected at the school level.
Bibek Bhandari, a graduate of Harvard University said the youths should be taught about creating jobs rather than getting a job. He said the authorities should be clear of the purpose of the education whether it is for creating jobs or skills.
