A detainee at Bardiya jail died on his way to the hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Tulsi Ram Aryal, who is also an information officer at Bardiya District Police Office, said 74-year-old Chintani Tharu of ward 2 of Madhuban Municipality, died while being taken to the Nepalgunj-based Bheri hospital.
He was suffering from asthma and hypertension, said DSP Aryal.
The Bardiya District Court remanded Tharu to judicial custody on rape charges in June 2022, according to police.
