Post Report
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Saturday sought public complaints against six justices recommended for the Supreme Court and an ambassadorial nominee for Portugal.
Issuing a notice on Saturday, the hearing committee called for complaints with a ten-day deadline against Sharanga Subedi, Abdul Ajit Musalman, Mahesh Sharma Poudel, Tek Prasad Dhungana, Sunil Kumar Pokharel and Balkrishna Dhakal, who were recommended for six of the seven long-vacant positions at the apex court.
Likewise, the House panel sought complaints against Sanil Nepal, who was recommended as Nepali ambassador to Portugal.
A meeting of the council led by Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha on Tuesday picked four candidates from among high court judges and two practising lawyers.
The notice issued by the hearing committee states, “If anyone feels that the appointment is not appropriate, please file a complaint in a decent language with clear grounds and proofs within 10 days from the date of publication of this notice.”
The notice states that the person filing the complaints should clearly disclose his/her name, address and phone number. The hearing committee, however, said the identity of a complainant will be kept anonymous if he/she so wishes.
The meeting of the committee held on Friday decided to call for complaints against the justices and ambassadorial nominees.
Article 292 of the constitution requires the chief justice, justices, and those nominated to constitutional commissions and ambassadorial posts to pass parliamentary hearings before they take the oath of the positions. President Ramchandra Paudel will appoint the justices and the ambassador if they get through the hearing process.
