The National Human Rights Commission has urged agitating groups to refrain from making hateful remarks in the name of protest and to follow the values of the constitution, laws and human rights.
In a statement on Friday, the commission asked the protesting sides to abide by the constitution and laws while organising protests.
Tikaram Pokharel, spokesperson for the commission, urged agitating parties not to post hateful content on social media, stop misusing social platforms and to play the role of responsible citizens refraining from any activities that incite violence.
The commission also requested the authorities to exercise restraint in using force on protesters.
The constitutional rights watchdog said that during monitoring on Thursday, it found out clashes ensued in Balkhu as two sides were engaged in hateful remarks and posters and audio-visual materials containing abusive language and expressions of hatred were used against high-ranking state officials.
Balkhu in Kathmandu remained tense throughout the day on Thursday due to the protest led by controversial businessman Prasai.
Prasai, who is organising the people under his ‘Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture and Citizen Rescue Campaign,’ has threatened to topple the regime and reinstate the monarchy and Hindu Kingdom.
Likewise, the CPN-UML’s wing the National Youth Federation Nepal held a protest at Koteshwar Tinkune against inflation and corruption.
District administrations and security agencies enforced prohibitory measures as the protesters gathered by the two sides were engaged in rivalry against each other.
