National Human Rights Commission appeals for rescue and treatment of injured
The constitutional human rights watchdog says it has dispatched a monitoring team to earthquake-hit areas.Post Report
The National Human Rights Commission has appealed to one and all to rescue those injured in the Jajarkot earthquake and provide them with free and effective treatment.
The commission urges all the concerned sides, including the government and political parties, to provide free and effective treatment to those injured in the earthquake and engage in rescue and relief operations, Tikaram Pokharel, spokesperson of the commission, said in a statement on Saturday.
The commission said it has started monitoring the earthquake-affected districts. A team from the commission’s Karnali Province office has already left for the earthquake-affected areas today to monitor the human rights situation of the earthquake victims. The commission said it is monitoring the disaster through other means as well.
The commission has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property and has expressed tributes to the people who lost their lives and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. It has also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The death toll from the devastating 6.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted western Nepal just before Friday midnight has climbed 143 as of 3:30 pm Saturday.
The death toll from the disaster is the highest since the 2015 earthquake that shook Nepal. A 7.8 magnitude earthquake and subsequent aftershocks killed around 9,000 people in 2015.
