Two girls drowned in a fish pond at Gramthan Rural Municipality-2 of Morang district on Saturday.
Police identified the deceased as Rejina Khawas, aged 10, and Samiksha Tharu, aged 12, of Khuniyakatta settlement.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjan Kumar Dahal said that the tragic accident happened while the victims were taking a bath in the pond.
The local people rescued the girls in critical condition and rushed them to Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar. The hospital pronounced them dead on arrival, said police.
