Indian army colonel arrested for murdering Nepali woman

An Indian army officer has been arrested on the charge of murdering a Nepali bar dancer in Dehradun, India.
The Dehradun police detained Lieutenant Colonel Ramendra Upadhyaya on the charge of killing 25-year-old Shreya Sharma from Tanahun district.
The suspect reportedly was in a live-in relationship with the victim. He was made public on Tuesday.
The army officer posted at Dehradun had allegedly murdered Sharma after she pressed him for marriage.
Meanwhile, Indian newspaper Hindustan Times quoted Dehradun senior superintendent of police DS Kunwar as saying that the accused, a native of Panditwari in Dehradun, had met victim Sharma at a dance bar in Siliguri in West Bengal when he was posted there.
“The two initially became friends and then started living as a couple in a live-in relationship,” said Kunwar. Police investigation found that the suspect murdered the victim on Saturday.
The locals recovered the woman’s body in the Raipur area of Dehradun on Sunday and informed the police.
The investigation officers recovered a hammer used in the crime.
