Former Speaker Nembang’s funeral performed with state honour

The funeral rites of former Speaker and Constituent Assembly chair the late Subas Chandra Nembang was performed with state honour at the Pashupatinath Temple on Thursday.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal draped the national flag over the CPN-UML vice-chair Nembang’s body as he paid his final respect to the deceased.
CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, House Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire, and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, among other leaders and a large number of his well-wishers were present at the crematory to pay their tributes to him.
UML leader Nembang passed away early morning on Tuesday at the age of 70 following a heart attack.
An emergency Cabinet meeting had decided to give Nembang a state funeral for his contribution to writing the constitution and declared the day of his funeral rites a national holiday.
Nembang served as Speaker of the House of Representatives which was reinstated in 2007. He was reelected the House Speaker later the same year and served as Constituent Assembly Chairman/Speaker in 2008 and 2013. Nembang was again reelected Speaker in 2015.
