An inmate doing time for a murder escaped Bardiya prison on Sunday morning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Hikmat Bahadur Bohara, information officer of Bardiya District Police Office, said Ajit Budha Chhetri, 27, from Thakurbaba Municipality-8, absconded by jumping a wall.

Bohara said police were mobilised throughout the district and at border points to search the prisoner.

Budha Chhetri, who was arrested last year, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering Jora Singh Thapa of Thakurbaba-8 some nine years ago.
