Socialist Front decides to hold mass assemblies in all provinces
Provincial-level assemblies set to begin on Friday from Birgunj.Post Report
The Socialist Front, the much-touted alliance of the left-leaning parties, has decided to hold mass assemblies in all seven provinces.
A meeting of the alliance held at the CPN (Unified Socialist) central office on Monday decided to organise provincial-level assemblies beginning from August 25.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Pramesh Hamal said an assembly will be held in Birgunj on Friday, in Butwal on August 29, in Dhangadhi on August 30, in Surkhet on August 31, in Pokhara on September 1, in Hetauda on September 9 and in Biratnagar on September 11.
Likewise, Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’, general secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal, said they discussed on making the works of the front effective.
On June 19, four leftist parties—the Maoist Centre, the Unified Socialist, the Janata Samajbadi and the Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand—announced the formation of the front.
The parties together have 54 seats (Maoist Centre 32, Unified Socialist 10, and Janata Samajbadi 12) in the 275-member House of Representatives. The Chand-led party did not contest the parliamentary elections.
However, political analysts and observers say that devoid of any new agenda, the Socialist Front has failed to give any hope to the general public, who are disenchanted towards the traditional parties.
