President Paudel urges Oli to end House obstruction
Says deadlock for a long period would create a negative impact on people and fuel despair.Post Report
President Ramchandra Paudel on Wednesday urged CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli to end the ongoing House obstruction.
During a meeting at Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office, various contemporary issues including House obstruction were discussed, said Kiran Pokharel, press adviser to the President.
Paudel drew Oli’s attention to end the House impasse, saying an obstruction lasting a longer period would create a negative impact on people and fuel despair, according to Pokharel.
The head of the state also suggested that all the parties in Parliament, including the ruling parties and the opposition, should move forward by creating an environment of trust.
The main opposition CPN-UML has been obstructing the federal Parliament since last month demanding a high-level investigation panel to probe into the recent incidents of gold smuggling in huge quantities through the Tribhuvan International Airport.
The ruling alliance has been declining the demand to form a separate probe panel arguing that the CPN-UML’s demand was aimed at derailing the ongoing investigation by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). The ruling parties have claimed that the CIB is competent enough to properly investigate such cases.
A meeting of the ruling coalition partners on Monday had concluded that there was no need of forming a separate panel for the purpose as demanded by the main opposition.
