Janata Samajbadi Party objects to deal between government and kin of Gaur victims
Argues the agreement in a changed political context has disrupted peace, stability and harmony.Post Report
The ruling Janata Samajbadi Party on Friday objected to an agreement between the government and kin of Gaur massacre victims, arguing that the deal has disrupted the peace, stability and harmony in the country.
In a statement, the party said it is unfortunate to reach the agreement in a changed political context.
The government and the representatives of the Gaur massacre victims signed a five-point agreement on Tuesday. The deal was struck during a meeting between the representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Gaur Massacre Victims’ Struggle Committee.
As per the agreement, complaints, relating to the 2007 incident, filed with the police will be investigated and the guilty will be brought to book as per law.
The Janata Samajbadi Party has claimed that Prabhu Shah, the then general secretary of the then Maoist Madhesh Mukti Morcha, was guilty of the incident.
The statement undersigned by Manish Suman, the party’s general secretary, stated the then Maoists had attacked their assemblies in various places and even though they got permission from the local administration to hold the program in Gaur 12 days before, the Maoists announced the assembly in the same venue just two days ago.
The party also demands that the reports of the various inquiry commissions formed regarding the incident be made public.
At least 27 Maoist cadres were killed in Gaur of Rautahat district on March 21, 2007, in an ugly confrontation with the then Madheshi Janadhikar Forum cadres led by Upendra Yadav. Yadav now chairs the Janata Samajbadi Party, a part of the ruling coalition and the Socialist Front initiated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre).
