Contractors under the banner of the Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN) staged a demonstration near the office of the prime minister in Baluwatar early on Tuesday.
The protestors parked construction machinery and placed construction equipment on the road, disrupting traffic.
Speaking at the demonstration, FCAN president Rabi Singh said that the government should help solve the problems faced by contractors and facilitate the resumption of work at the earliest.
Although arrangements have been made to extend the deadline for projects without a source by a year, such projects should be dissolved if they cannot be refunded, he demanded.
“We demand the government take back its decision to extend the deadlines for projects without a financial source. How will they make refunds for such projects?” Singh said. “We have come here with nine demands, including price adjustments.”
Singh also threatened that they would continue to stage demonstrations until Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal formulates a long-term solution to their problems and address their demands.
