Four arrested with foreign currency from TIA
The arrest follows the confiscation of smuggled gold that had passed undetected through the Kathmandu airport customs on Tuesday evening.Post Report
Police on Wednesday night detained four individuals from the Tribhuvan International Airport in possession of undeclared foreign currency.
The arrest came immediately after the Department of Revenue Investigation seized a huge quantity of gold from the Tribhuvan International Airport area and arrested three persons on suspicion of gold smuggling. The precious metal had passed undetected through customs on Tuesday evening. According to the department, around 80 to 100 kilograms of yellow metal was confiscated during a raid based on a tip-off.
Police said they at first arrested Anish Thapa, 24, of Tilottama Municipality-9 of Rupandehi district with USD 41,400, Saudi Riyal 119,500, Omani riyals 1,357 and 308 Bahraini dinars while he was leaving for Dubai through a flight of Himalaya Airlines.
The currency notes were concealed in luggage filled with noodles.
Based on interrogation, police arrested three more individuals including Dipesh Rana, 38, of Tilottama-9 from a car parked at the airport premises.
Police said they have been kept at Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala, adding a further investigation is underway.
