The meeting of the House of Representatives that had failed to commence owing to the obstruction from the opposition parties, resumed from Monday.
The House remained obstructed since Wednesday following the main opposition CPN-UML’s demand that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal resign over his controversial public remark that a transport entrepreneur had lobbied with India to appoint Dahal as prime minister.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party had also joined the obstruction, demanding that the prime minister clarify the matter.
At Monday’s meeting, the prime minister addressed the House and responded to the queries of opposition lawmakers.
The understanding to resume the House proceedings was reached at a meeting between Prime Minister Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli ahead of the lower House meeting.
On July 2, Dahal, while addressing a function to launch the book ‘Roads to the Valley: The Legacy of Sardar Pritam Singh in Nepal’, had said, “He [Singh] had once made efforts to make me the prime minister. He reached Delhi several times and held multiple rounds of talks with politicians in Kathmandu to make me the prime minister.”
Earlier, the meeting of the National Assembly scheduled for Monday was postponed to Tuesday.
The upper House secretariat said the meeting called for today could not be held due to special reasons and it has been postponed to tomorrow at 11:01am.
