At least three people died in two separate road accidents in Kalikot and Syangja districts.

Two people died while one other was injured in a road accident that occurred in Kalikot on Thursday.

Forty-three-year-old Man Bahadur Shahi and his wife Man Kumari Shahi, 36, lost their lives in the jeep accident that took place in Serachaur of Raskot Municipality-2 at 7am on Thursday.

Another passenger, Rita Shahi Singh, 30, sustained serious injuries in the road mishap. Singh was medevacked to Surkhet for further treatment, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Jayashwor Rimal.

The accident occurred after the jeep driver Binod Darlami, 21, allegedly got off the vehicle to tie his shoelace without applying the handbrake, following which the vehicle moved in reverse and caused the accident.

Darlami has been taken into police custody and further investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Similarly, one other person lost his life in a road accident in Syangja on Wednesday evening, leaving three others injured.

The road mishap occurred in ward 3 of the Arjun Chaupari Rural Municipality at around 6pm on Wednesday. The pickup truck of the Syangja District Coordination Committee fell some 50 metres off the road.

Driver Amrit Khanal, who had sustained serious injuries, breathed his last during treatment at the district hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Khanal.

Committee officials Rajendra Prasad Adhikari, Ambika Poudel and Tikaram Poudel, who were aboard the vehicle, were injured in the accident.

Adhikari has suffered a broken leg while the other two individuals have sustained minor injuries.
