Former lawmaker Aang Tawa Sherpa surrenders to police

Former Nepali Congress lawmaker Aang Tawa Sherpa, one of the accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee scam, surrendered to the police on Monday.
Sherpa turned himself in at the Kathmandu District Police Range in Teku, said Superintendent of Police Sitaram Rijal, spokesperson at the range.
The Kathmandu District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Sherpa on Sunday in connection with the scam in which scores of people were duped of millions of rupees in the pretext of sending them to the United States as Bhutanese refugees.
Sherpa is accused of influencing former home minister Bal Krishna Khand not to implicate certain individuals in the case after meeting him in custody.
Thirteen people including Khand, former deputy prime minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, and former home secretary Tek Narayan Pandey have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the scam.
Sherpa, who was elected as a Constituent Assembly member in the 2013 from Ramechhap-1, is currently the general convention representative of the largest party.
