Nepal’s Foreign Ministry on Monday said it is making necessary attempts for the security and rescue of Nepalis in Sudan in the wake of violence since April 15.
The ministry said Nepal’s Embassy in Cairo, Egypt is collecting details with the help of Nepalis in Sudan, Nepali peacekeepers, Nepal’s consulate and Sudanese agencies.
A total of 19 Nepalis who are in contact with the embassy in Cairo are safe, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
Moreover, three Nepali peacekeepers moved to Chad on Sunday and seven Nepalis deployed in UN agencies left for Port Sudan from Khartoum and are now preparing to fly to Uganda.
The ministry has urged Nepalis in Sudan to stay safe, avoid unnecessary travel and contact the Nepali embassy in Cairo at +201097772348, +201029606662 and [email protected] in case of an emergency.
The sudden eruption of violence between the military and the well-armed Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group on April 15 has triggered a humanitarian crisis in Sudan, killing at least 420 people.
Fighter jets have bombed the capital, the main airport has been at the centre of fighting and artillery barrages have made movement unsafe in and out of one of Africa’s largest cities, Reuters reported.
