CPN (Unified Socialist) leader Ghanashyam Bhusal has been nominated general secretary of the party.
A meeting of the party’s central secretariat nominated Bhusal to the post and the incumbent general secretary Beduram Bhusal to vice-chairman, according to Jagannath Khatiwada, the party’s spokesperson.
On January 14, Ghanashyam was inducted into the Unified Socialist’s secretariat, a day later after the former UML leader joined the party.
Prior to the last year’s elections, Bhusal had quit the CPN-UML when denied the electoral ticket in Rupandehi-1. He contested the polls as an independent candidate but lost to UML’s Chhabilal Bishwakarma.
Bhusal was elected to the House of Representatives from Rupandehi-3 in the 2017 elections but was denied a ticket this time by UML chair KP Sharma Oli. He was the UML’s deputy general secretary. He also served as the Agriculture minister in the Oli-led Cabinet in 2019.
The meeting also decided to vote for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the floor test.
“The party has decided to vote in favour of the trust motion,” said spokesperson Khatiwada.
“We will also discuss further on joining the government.”
The prime minister is scheduled to take a vote of confidence at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday.
