The government has approved the tabling of a bill to amend the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedures) Act in the Parliament.
The government is preparing to table the new bill after withdrawing an earlier bill tabled at the National Assembly.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday approved the tabling of the new bill, said Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma, who is also the government’s spokesperson.
The erstwhile Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government in July last year had registered a bill to amend the Constitutional Council Act at the upper house, retaining the provisions that were in the ordinance brought by the KP Oli government.
The Constitutional Council is responsible for crucial appointments including those of the chief justice, auditor general and 60 office bearers of 12 different constitutional commissions.
Likewise, the meeting decided to present the annual report of the government for the last fiscal year before President Bidya Devi Bhandari and also approved the formulation of a bill on the operation and management of development projects.
