Maoist Centre, Unified Socialist and Samajbadi to discuss with Congress on presidential candidate

The CPN (Maoist Centre), the CPN (Unified Socialist) and the Janata Samajbadi Party have decided to take a final call on the presidential candidate only after discussing with the Nepali Congress.
Talking to journalists after a three-party meeting on Thursday evening, Samajbadi Party leader Rajendra Shrestha said whether a new alliance will be formed will be decided only after discussing with the Congress on Friday.
“We (three parties) have agreed to discuss the presidential election with the Congress tomorrow,” said Shrestha. “The meeting will decide whether a new coalition will be formed.”
After the meeting, Deputy General Secretary of United Socialist Prakash Jwala said no concrete agreement could be reached despite discussions between the parties.
“Discussions were held on forming a front between the Maoist Center, the Unified Socialist and the Samajbadi Party,” Jwala said. “Our party’s secretariat had decided to discuss all political matters with the Congress or other parties. We are discussing accordingly.”
He said his party will not object if the party’s chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal is fielded as a common candidate based on a national consensus. He said that there was no concrete discussion about reviving the old alliance.
Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress has called a meeting of the work execution committee for Friday to discuss the presidential election.
According to Jeevan Pariyar, Congress joint general secretary, the meeting has been called at the party office in Sanepa after 8am.
