Human rights of 7,376 people violated in 2022: INSEC report
According to the report, the rights of 622 individuals were violated by the state while the rights of 6,754 individuals were violated by non-state parties during the year.Post Report
The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has reported an increase in the number of incidents of human rights violations in 2022.
The ‘Human Rights Year Book-2023’ published by the rights organisation on Sunday reported 7,376 people were victims of human rights violations in 2022. A total of 6,285 cases of human rights violations were recorded in 2021.
According to the INSEC report, on average 20 people were victims of human rights violations daily in 2022 in the country.
In 2022, the rights of 622 individuals were violated by the state, which included 50 women and 572 men, while the rights of 6,754 individuals, including 5,944 women, 807 men and three sexual and gender minorities, were violated by non-state parties.
The organisation said that 4,228 women were victimised which was the highest of any group mentioned in the yearly report.
According to INSEC, 35 people were abducted, 81 were arrested, 448 were physically assaulted while the rights of 1,453 children were violated. Additionally, four custodial deaths and reports of 25 people being subject to inhuman treatment were recorded within the year.
Similarly, 333 people were murdered and 23 people were subjected to caste-based discrimination, during the same period.
The report stated that 405 people suffered from violation of the right to freedom of expression, assembly and association, 37 were threatened, five were tortured, 53 people died in prison and two cases of disappearance were recorded in 2022.
