US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Akhtar arrives in Kathmandu

Afreen Akhter, the United States deputy assistant secretary of state in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA) for Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and the Maldives as well as the Office of Security and Transnational Affairs, arrived for a two-day official visit of Nepal in Kathmandu on Monday.
Akhtar’s is the third high-level visit from the United States within three weeks and since the formation of the Pushpa Kamal Dahal government on December 25.
Earlier, the United States Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland had arrived in Nepal for a two-day visit on January 29.
Nuland’s visit was followed by Samantha Power, administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) who holds a Cabinet rank in the US order of precedence, on February 7.
According to the American Embassy, Deputy Foreign Minister Akhtar, during her visit will hold discussions with the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICMOD) and partners of Urja Nepal.
During her two-day official visit to Nepal, Akhtar is scheduled to meet with the officials of the Nepal Army and government officials.
“Akhtar will hold discussions on climate change, clean energy, humanitarian aid and disaster response, as well as promoting democracy, human rights and mutual economic prosperity,” reads the statement issued by the embassy.
