TIA General Manager suspended after ministry receives audio of him allegedly seeking illegal favours

Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Premnath Thakur has been suspended for allegedly seeking bribes from a foreign airline company.
Rajendra Kumar KC, spokesperson at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, informed that Thakur has been suspended for investigation after an audio conversation where Thakur is heard seeking illegal favours from a representative of Thai Smile Airline came to light.
KC informed that Thakur was suspended following a ministerial-level decision to investigate the matter.
The ministry has also informed the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal regarding the decision.
“The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse Of Authority will also be urged to launch an investigation into the matter,” reads the statement issued by the ministry.
Thakur was appointed to the post on February 18, 2020, after former TIA General Manager Bhola Prasad Guragain stepped down from the post due to age statute.
