The government has decided to grant a public holiday on the day of Prithvi Jayanti on January 11.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday evening took the decision.
The Rastriya Prajatantra Party had set a condition for a vote of confidence in favour of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government demanding a public holiday on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti that is marked on Paush 27.
Likewise, Monday’s cabinet meeting has also approved the government’s common minimum program.
The draft of the Common Minimum Program prepared by the task force led by CPN-UML Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has proposed to give a public holiday on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti to commemorate and respect the historic geographical integration of Nepal.
However, the report of the common minimum program that was made public on Monday had not included the topic.
