The Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said it is eager to work with the new government in Nepal.

“Our prime minister congratulated Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Nepali PM replied and said that he wants friendly relations between the countries. He talked about natural affinity. Both our countries have unique bilateral relations,” said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of India’s External Affairs Ministry, speaking at a regular media briefing.

“We hope to work together with the new government of Nepal. We are eager to work together with the new government formed through the recent elections.”

Earlier on Sunday evening, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi congratulated Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

“The unique relationship between India and Nepal is based on deep cultural connect and warm people-to-people ties [sic],” Modi wrote on Twitter, within hours after President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Dahal as head of the government.

“I look forward to working together with you to further strengthen this friendship.”
