Supreme Court to hear on legitimacy of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane as Member of Parliament

The hearing on the legitimacy of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane as a Member of Parliament will be held on January 6 next year in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court.
The writ petition filed by advocate Rabi Raj Basoula was heard in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court on December 21, however, the certified copy of the order was issued on Tuesday.
Lawyers from both sides will argue whether Lamichhane is eligible or unfit for the post of the Member of Parliament.
The constitutional bench formed under the leadership of the acting chief justice consists of judges Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha and Prakashman Singh Raut.
A writ petition was registered in the Supreme Court with the demand that Lamichhane, who is also the chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, should be stopped from taking the oath of office and secrecy as a member of parliament. It has also demanded that his chairmanship should be revoked for using his Nepali citizenship, which became inactive after taking American citizenship.
