Federal Parliament General Secretary Bharat Raj Gautam has furnished a written response to the Supreme Court regarding the letter rendering the impeachment motion against suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana ineffective.
In a surprise move, the Parliament Secretariat on December 7 annulled the impeachment motion brought in the previous parliament against Rana, arguing the motion had become ineffective with the election of a new parliament.
Gautam had invalidated the motion via a letter addressed to top state offices, including the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court on Friday had issued an interim order directing the state authorities not to implement Gautam’s decision. The bench had also issued a show cause notice against Rana and Gautam seeking their clarification why shouldn’t the latter’s decision be scrapped.
In the written response sent by the Federal Parliament Secretariat, Gautam has said that he will furnish answers to the questions asked by the full court while responding to the show cause notice issued by the constitutional bench.
