President Bhandari returns home
President Bhandari was conferred with the WPL Trailblazer Award at the Reykjavík Global Forum held in Reykjavik, Iceland.Post Report
President Bidya Devi Bhandari returned home on Saturday completing her official visit to Iceland.
Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Prasad Timilsina welcomed the President upon her arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
President Bhandari had left for Iceland on Monday to attend the Reykjavík Global Forum. President Bhandari was conferred with the WPL Trailblazer Award 2022 at the global event on Wednesday.
Silvana-Koch Mehrin, President and Founder of Women Political Leaders and former Vice-President of the European Parliament, presented the award to Bhandari amid a ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Prime Minister of Iceland Katrίn Jacobsdόttir and Former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir were also present at the award ceremony.
A statement issued after the award ceremony said President Bhandari dedicated the award to the Nepali women whose struggle for gender empowerment and inclusion contributed to the achievements that Nepal has made in those agendas this far.
President Bhandari also delivered a keynote speech to the Forum and highlighted Nepal’s journey to institutionalise an inclusive democracy that has well-embodied principles of human rights, equality, non-discrimination, inclusion and social transformation.
