EU says it will monitor upcoming elections
European Union said a team of observers from the EU office in Nepal will be observing the November 20 elections along with its member state embassies.Post Report
The Delegation of the European Union to Nepal has refuted the news item ‘European Union to Skip Monitoring Upcoming Polls’ published in the Post on 30th October, 2022 saying that the EU offer of a team of experts from Brussels coming to observe the elections was turned down by Nepal’s Election Commission.
It clarifies that the “economic crisis” and the shift of priorities of EU more towards Ukraine do not mean that the EU would not be ready to observe the upcoming federal and provincial elections in Nepal.
A statement signed by Nona Deprez, the EU ambassador to Nepal, said that a team of observers from the EU office in Nepal will be observing the November 20 elections along with its member state embassies.
The EU would be closely monitoring the elections and wishes to see people’s mandate utilised in a free, fair and transparent manner, the ambassador said.
