The poll body, acting on a complaint, has sought clarification from the candidates for breaching a provision in the election code of conduct.Post Report
The Election Commission has sought clarifications from two candidates contesting the November elections, accusing them of flouting the election code of conduct.
The poll body on Wednesday asked Bina Magar, a CPN (Maoist Centre) candidate from Kanchanpur-1, and CPN-UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai, a candidate from Taplejung, to furnish clarifications within 24 hours on why they breached the code of conduct during electioneering and why the commission shouldn’t take action against them.
The commission said that the candidates have been asked to furnish a clarification after a complaint was registered against them stating that they flouted the election code by conducting door-to-door campaigns in their constituencies involving over 25 people.
The code of conduct that came into force on November 20 restricts the number of people allowed in a party’s door-to-door campaign to 25.
“Why should the commission not take action against you according to Section 23 (3) and (4) of the Election Commission Act, 2017 for violating the election code of conduct,” the commission has asked the candidates.
