Court extends Sandeep Lamichhane’s remand again
The Kathmandu District Court, acting upon the request of the police, on Sunday extended Lamichhane’s custody, for the fourth time, for two days.Post Report
The Kathmandu District Court on Sunday extended the judicial custody of suspended national cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane for two more days.
Advocate Saroj Krishna Ghimire, the lawyer representing Lamichhane, informed that the court granted a two-day custody extension of his client to the police.
Ghimire, speaking to the press following the court order, said that the court had extended the custody as per the request of the police adding that the police is preparing to present the report of the investigation to the District Attorney Office today itself.
On October 19, the court had extended Lamichhane’s remand, for the third time, for 4 days.
Likewise, a single bench of judge Surya Bahadur Thapa had extended Lamichhanne’s custody by five days on October 13.
Earlier, on October 10, the court had extended the remand of Lamichhane for seven days starting from October 6, the day the police had arrested him from Tribhuvan International Airport.
Police need to complete the investigation within 25 days from the day of arrest before filing a criminal case against him.
Ghimire on Sunday also pointed out that several news articles had falsely reported on Lamichhane’s health and informed that Lamichhane is in good health.
Lamichhane has been accused of raping a 17-year-old minor on August 21. An investigation is being conducted against him under Section 219 of the Criminal Code 2074. If the crime against him is proven, he will be imprisoned for 10 to 12 years as per the existing legal provisions.
The minor had filed a case against the cricketer on September 6 at the Metropolitan Police Circle, Gaushala.
The District Court, on September 7, had issued an arrest warrant against the 22-year-old cricketer acting on the case filed by Gaushala Police Circle after the girl accused him of rape.
