Speaking during the first session of the ‘Madhesh Manthan’ largely focused on federalism, service delivery and local prosperity of the Madhesh Province, Chief Attorney of Madhesh Province Dipendra Jha underscored the need for provinces to be able to exercise administrative powers.
Jha said Provinces must be given administrative power to strengthen federalism.
Chief Attorney Jha, businessman Jagdish Prasad Agarwal, Province Assembly member Sharda Devi Thapa and economist Achyut Wagle were the speakers for the session.
“The federal government has not helped in the formation of provincial police even now,” said Jha.
Jha said that the provincial police administration is being treated as a ‘development unit’ without autonomy.
‘Madhesh Manthan’, a brainstorming programme focussing on the sustainable development, prosperity and transformation of Madhesh Pradesh, Madhesh Manthan is organised by Kantipur Media Group.
The programme happening in Janakpur today, in collaboration with the Madhesh Province government, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information and Communications and the Province Assembly Secretariat, was inaugurated by Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Nepal’s first president.
The programme has five different sessions on varied topics ranging from governance to social transformation of the Madhes Province.
