Foreign ministers of Nepal and India on Tuesday held talks in Colombo on the sidelines of the fifth BIMSTEC Summit. The meeting between Narayan Khadka and S Jaishankar comes ahead of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s visit to India on April1-3.

The two foreign ministers met on the sidelines of the 18th ministerial meeting of the BIMSTEC Summit that kicked off on Monday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Matters including the ongoing preparations for the prime minister’s visit to India were discussed in the meeting,” said the ministry.

Prime Minister Deuba is leaving for India on April 1 in his first official foreign trip since assuming office in July last year. He is scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 2.

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will also hold talks with Prime Minister Deuba during his stay in Delhi.

“Good to meet FM Narayan Khadka of Nepal on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC ministerial meeting,” Jaishankar wrote on Twitter after talks with Khadka. “We discussed our cooperation in connectivity, energy, fertilizers, health and power. Agreed to focus on taking forward the Ramayan circuit.”
