As they had staked a claim to form a new government and the issue is pending at the Supreme Court the opposition alliance led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has warned the government not to take any decision having long-term effects.
In a statement on Sunday the opposition alliance that includes Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), Madhav Nepal-led faction of CPN-UML, Upendra Yadav-led faction of Janata Samajbadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha has also requested all state bodies not to support the government’s undemocratic and unconstitutional activities.
“At a time when the majority of the members of the House of Representatives have duly given an alternative prime minister with the signature of 149 members we would like to warn the government not to take any action that affects the country and the people in the long run,” states the joint statement. “We also request all the organs and bodies of the state not to support the undemocratic activities of the government which are against the constitution.”
The alliance has said they believe the Supreme Court would impart justice to them and have also appealed to everyone to speak out strongly in favour of Nepal's constitution and democracy in a unified manner.
Hearing on the petition demanding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives that began on Friday continued on Sunday.
“We appeal to all the political parties and their cadres and all the people to strongly raise their voice and stand for the hard earned constitution and democracy in a unified manner,” the alliance said.
The statement comes a day after the government announced the budget of the fiscal year 2021-22 through an ordinance on Saturday which the opposition claims the caretaker government does not have the right to do.
