Nepal, Bangladesh sign four memorandums of understanding

Nepal and Bangladesh have signed four bilateral instruments namely Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation, Memorandum of Understanding on sanitary and phytosanitary cooperation, cultural exchange programme, and Letter of Exchange to designate Rohanpur-Singabad railway route as an additional transit route.
The signing took place during President Bidya Devi Bhandari's state visit to Bangladesh.
President Bhandari arrived in Dhaka on Monday to attend the celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation of Bangladesh.
According to the Nepali embassy in Dhaka, President Bhandari witnessed the signing ceremony of those memorandums of understanding.
Besides meeting with top Bangladeshi officials, Bhandari attended the celebration programme to mark the birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka on Monday, and delivered a statement on the theme of “Nepal-Bangladesh Relations and Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary”.
In her statement, she highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations existing between Nepal and Bangladesh, according to the Nepali embassy in Dhaka.
She also shed light on invaluable contributions of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the independence of Bangladesh and his visions of Sonar Bangla.
Bangladesh is observing a 10-day program to celebrate 100th birth centenary of Sheikh Mujibur and 50th anniversary of the country's independence and liberation from March 17 to March 26.
On Monday evening, President Bhandari held talks with her Bangladeshi counterpart Abdul Hamid and attended a state banquet hosted by the latter in her honour.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid a courtesy call on Bhandari.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and bilateral cooperation were discussed, according to the embassy.
Bhandari is scheduled to return home on Tuesday afternoon.
