A Nepali man who had been imprisoned for the past 40 years in an Indian jail without a formal court trial was released on Saturday.
Durga Prasad Timsina (aka Dipak Jaisi), a resident of Mai Municipality in Ilam district, was released from Dum Dum Central Correctional Home, Kolkata in West Bengal state of India, following a verdict from a joint-bench of Kolkata High Court Chief judge Thottathil B Nayar Radhakrishnan and judge Anirudra Roy on Wednesday.
Timsina’s brother Prakash Chandra had reached the Dumdum prison to receive his brother.
Speaking to the media briefly after his release Timsina said, “I am innocent.”
